WHEREAS, the freedom of choice is a hallmark of consumer rights, and

WHEREAS, in Canada according to 2006 Census data 80\% of the Canadian public speaks ENGLISH or another language OTHER than french, and

WHEREAS in North America since the dawn of computing the QWERTY keyboard has remained unchanged until recently in CANADA:

WE THE UNDERSIGNED DEMAND THE DISCONTINUATION OF THE POLICY OF ONLY ALLOWING CANADIAN CONSUMERS THE OPTION OF PURCHASING *BILINGUAL* KEYBOARDS ON LAPTOP COMPUTERS.

This recently adopted policy amongst Canadian computer offerings has dictated to Canadian consumers that if they choose to buy a laptop in Canada that they must RE-LEARN how they type, or else \they} will have to live with \|characters >> that they did not intend to type in their documents!

The small left SHIFT key and the further spaced out ENTER key create (for anyone who KNOWS how to touch type on a QWERTY keyboard) a situation where it is nearly impossible to type as we have for YEARS without constant errors and difficulty.

THIS INSANITY HAS TO END! Go BACK to the way things were and offer a FRENCH version of keyboards that can be installed should someone WANT it. THE 80\% OF US IN CANADA WHO DO NOT USE THE FRENCH KEYS DO NOT WANT THIS EXTRA HASSLE!!!!

Yes, French iis an official language of Canada, but that doesn't mean we have to be forced to speak it or type it!!!

    • As Canadian consumers, we should be given the choice of keyboard layouts since we have two official languages. We should not be forced into using a layout that benefits such a small portion of the population.

    • This is the most ridiculous thing ever! I was so frustrated I returned my new laptop to Future Shop and drove to Buffalo and bought a proper laptop State side. So much for shopping Canadian. I would happy to have Quebec separate over this issue alone! Maudit Pepsi!!

    • There are still some unilingual keyboards available but the choice is very limited. They should all be English with an optional key set.. What nonsense!

    • I don't appreciate the stress of having to constantly adjust from a standard English PC keyboard to an entirely different laptop keyboard. Additionally, I have small hands and the leap from colon to Enter is NOT suitably functional for me. I will be looking to buy an English keyboard laptop!

    • Everyone do this: Go to any Future Shop or Best Buy (etc.) where they offer a satisfaction or return policy. Open the box and then return it (so that it can't be resold as new). Tell the seller explicitly to inform the manufacturer that the laptop is unacceptable because of the keyboard. Hopefully there will be enough returns for the manufacturers to notice.

    • I wish I could meet the guy / people implemanting the bilingual keyboard so that I could punch him / them in the face fro ruining it for the rest 95\% of us. I ended up buying and returning 6 laptops each at a different store just to make a point. Who needs / wants a billingual keyboard???? like 0.00000001\% what about the rest of us who have learned and got used to the US layout? I will never buy a machine with this keyboard! On the contrary I will keep buying/returning just to make a point!. Maybe they will get the point, though I doubt it.

    • It is utterly frustrating to change a keyboard and not inform anyone! I have a laptop that I can't stand to use. I'll buy my next one in the States next time ... Great job, I always support Canadian businesses when possibly but this forces Canadian consumers to buy their laptops in the US. Truly rediculous.

    • The use of technology is supposed to help you work more efficiently but the new layout of this keyboard lowers typing speed, increases the errors you type and causes fustration.

    • They already make them for the U.S. market. I think it is retailers not willing to carry 2 languages of the same model. I think it is the big box retailers' doing.
