Keep the YMCA/Lucansky at Oakleaf

We feel that your board has chosen a path for the Sports Programs at Oakleaf that is not inline with our stated wishes.

After holding 4 meetings and hearing the input from people of the Oakleaf Plantation area speak repeatedly to keep the YMCA running the Sports Program with John Lucansky as our Sports Director, the you essentially chose to create your own version of "the people have spoken."

You have all but decided to turn over the community's sports programs to an unprepared, unproven and even disjointed collection of athletic providers run by an unregulated bureaucracy (Oakleaf Athletic Association) as of January 1, 2009.

We urge the CDD boards to choose either the YMCA or even ASG (who has been given the Aquatics contract) both of which have stated they would utilize John Lucanskys skills. Either action will provide a proven, time-tested and unified Sports Program for Oakleaf.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and respecting the wishes of the residents as well as surrounding area that utilize our Sports Program.

    • I am definitely not signing anything keeping the YMCA! How many of you signers were actually at the meetings and are current coaches and volunteers?? NOT MANY! The people did speak and the majority ruled to get rid of the YMCA! You just aren't aware of the real problems. There has been many disturbing issues the YMCA refuses to address.. So before you all jump on the band wagon to keep the YMCA and John, you should check the facts. I DO HOWEVER SUPPORT getting ASG to run the recreational league and having Clay County sports and PopWarner come in and run the competitive. The people did make it clear they wanted that but the board chose to go with the OAKLEAF ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION. That group will never come to fruition! DUMP THE YMCA, and get ASG! We WILL get the money back in the end!

    • The YMCA caters to all ages within the community and Coach Lucansky has done an excellent job mentoring ALL of our children and keeping parental involvement a top priority. The YMCA sports program is an asset for all residents and it is a MAJOR selling point for families who wish to make Oakleaf their home.

    • The problem with the YMCA in regards to sports was that the decisions made by John and the Sports director before him were being under-minded. The person contributing to their limitations is no longer there. Keep the Y for recreational sports. OAA is not ready for this responsibility yet.
