CIЙ is considering selling the former railway station in Kells for developement, and compromising the Navan-Kells railway alignment in the process.
The railway alignment from Navan to Kells must be protected in it's entirety to facilitate a possible future reopening of the line as a commuter rail link as Kells population is booming.
Thinking beyond Transport 21 is essential if the planners of counties Meath and Cavan are going to reach a point where they are ahead of the game in place of constantly playing catch-up.
At the very least, the Government & Meath's planners should recognise that Kells once had a rail link, and that the people of Kells will at some point start to demand its return.
I support the Meath on Track call on Meath's planners, the County Council, the Chambers of Commerce and our elected representatives in Dбil Йireann to recognise this and to protect the entire Navan and Kells railway alignment for the benefit of people in north Meath and Co Cavan.
With commute times to Dublin running at up to 2.5hrs each morning, it is time to start thinking beyond Transport 21 and to protect the Kells railway alignment now.

- Do not compromise this railway alignment. Learn from past mistakes - CIЙ should not be more interested in property development that provision of transport infrastructure.

- Can CIE not think of anything other than short term financial gain!!! Unfortunately, we all know about Spencer Dock and the way in which the terminal wont even link up with the Luas, because the original site was sold for development. Why arent all major rail projects under the RPA anyway? In the case of Kells, can CIE not put the site to some temporary use such as rented storage or something, until the population grows to a level which would then justify a rail link. I shouldn't have to spell this out!!!

- The more people are forced to drive, the more the state will be fined under the Kytoto protocol. Of course, the state actually being the taxpayer who was forced to drive in the first place, thereby paying TWICE over for the lack of public transport.

- Its a case of left hand right hand, CIE property don't talk to Irish Rail and since the line is closed Irish Rail have no power over it. Don't worry if you think CIE are bad I'm sure Meath CC will get in on the act did by building on the Navan Kells alignment, after all these are the same people who stuck a sewer main under the Navan Clonsilla alignment and lied at a public meeting about it only to be caught out, thats commitment for you. Might not be needed now but it must be protected. Simplest thing is for Meath CC to finally get the finger out and rezone the former Kells station for public transport use making it impossible to be built on for any other purpose

- It is long since due that Ireland should begin focusing on public transport as a means of tackling our transport issues. Building more roads only leads to more cars driving on the roads and does not ultimately solve any problems. UPGRADE THE TRAINS, they are a disgrace

- Yet again another example of the short sightedness of governement bodies in Ireland. there is no justifiable reason to sell the alignment other than greed. SAVE IT and keep ouir train lines open

- Learn from the mistakes of the Tod Andrews era, not repeat them. This country is expanding, with a dependance in the car, the opposite to every other developing country which is utilising the fastest and most economical mode of mass public transport, the railway ! Please wake up and hold on to our assets.
