To whom it may concern,

The former Norwegian Coastal Steamer "Kong Olav" (built 1964) which sailed along the coast in Norway in Hurtigruta and served the coastal communities for more than 30 years (retired April 1997), has been laid up in Burma (/Myanmar) by the Thai border, left to rotten. The ship was purchased by Andaman Marine in 1997 and taken to Thailand, however, the South East Asian economic crisis that year halted all plans for the continuing use of the ship.

Please sign this petition if you would like this wonderfully built ship to be preserved and see the ship saved from falling into the hands of a scrappers cutting-torch. The ultimate goal is to find a buyer in Norway and to return the ship to Norway in a static role; however any kind of salvage attempt will be appreciated if tastefully done.

The ship has been sitting neglected at anchor for too long and being on board her is like stepping back in time in a time machine, back to the year of 1997. With her royal name which she still proudly carries (the name of late His Majesty the King of Norway: King Olav), she deserves to be saved and preserved.

You are able to see images from this ship beyond this link:
