We the people, are asking our local representatives to lower the cost of taking public transit. Initially the increase was proposed due to the high cost of crude oil, the price of crude at that time was 110dollars per barrel. Now the cost per barrel is 35 dollars.

Additionally, the service was designated to be increased. Oakville transit has spent 200 thousand dollars for the new 'sleek' bus shelters in downtown Oakville.

The cost before the increase was 2 Dollars cash, or 1.75 per ticket, or 70 dollars for a monthly pass.

We are asking for the costs to be brought down to 2.50 cash, 2 dollars per ticket, or 70 dollars for a monthly pass.

For those who are on a fixed income, it is a difficult expense to reach with the needless transit increases. We ask that there be a pass at a set price for those who are on a fixed income, or have a disability.

We ask that the student 'freedom' pass terms of use work in harmony with the school schedule. So students can use their freedom pass to get to, as well as home from school.

Co-op students are at an increased cost due to the fact that they need to use tickets, as well as their freedom passes in order to get to their job sites. We ask that Co-op students be an exception to the freedom pass terms of use.

We thank you for your consideration.

    • The service provided does not justify an increase in fares. Oakville Transit needs to train their drivers in dealing with young people and buses need to run on later and on sundays.
