We, the concerned citizens of S. Austin, are petitioning to remove the huge billboard that has been erected at 221 S. Lamar Blvd, just feet from the Bridges on the Park condominiums, and steps from Lady Bird Lake.

The billboard has gone up without proper approval from the Zilker Neighborhood Association nor the Bridges on the Park HOA.
And without proper approval, this is setting precedence for future billboards like this one to go up in surrounding areas as well.

In addition, it is a blight on the area of land right next to our pristine Hike and Bike Trail on Ladybird Lake. The erection of this billboard so close to the lake is inconsistent with our non-commercialized lakefront, our community values and our local culture.

Because the current City Council failed to anticipate and regulate this kind of structure so close to residences and the lakefront, we area residents are being asked to pay the price for their shortsightedness.

Therefore we are forced to exercise the very limited power left to us to send a stern warning to any advertiser that might choose to utilize this billboard.

Be aware that if you advertise in this manner in our community you run the risk of losing business. Many of us are prepared to boycott businesses that fail to respect our local values.

To our local business leaders we have a simple message you have thrived with the support of this community for years and you did it without the need for this kind of advertisement. Stand with us now. Dont advertise on this billboard.

Through this public expression of our displeasure, we hope to convince other advertisers not to support this kind of blight in our community.

And we further hope to send a proactive signal to others who might consider erecting additional billboards that we will not be passive.

By signing this petition, you will be supporting the efforts in the community to bring this huge billboard down! Please let all of your neighbors and friends know about this petition. We would appreciate everyones support!

    • This proximity of this billboard to The Bridges is almost laughable. The fact that this was approved seems like it must have been a loophole - or that someone was not paying attention. It's a bit ridiculous.

    • It is right in front of my window and it is an absolute disaster for when I want to sell my condo.

    • It is surprising that this obstruction was allowed to be built immediately next to a large residental building and area.

    • This sign represents a loophole that needs to be fixed, even if currently legal, it is something we cannot reasonably allow next to a residential building next to the lake. It should be relocated or at a minimum, moved out of the site line to be out of the way of home owner's views.

    • They started with the cute Pinocchio/Be Healthy message to reduce backlash. Later: Cheap beer? Zero down refinance?
