Petition to Linkedin from individual group owners requesting that the ability to download group member email addresses and the current request to join list be reinstated.

On March 20, 2009, without prior notice, Linkedin has removed the ability to download or view member email addresses by the group managers. LinkedIn has failed to respond to hundreds of comments and requests on various groups, including the "LinkedIn Groups Product Forum" a group created by Linkedin to enter conversation with group managers (http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=51082) and the SuperGroup Founders (http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=1204737).

We hereby request that the ability to download group member email addresses and the current request to join list be reinstated.

    • Reason for signing: Because the current Announcement system does not allow the Group Managers to send Announcements to parts of their Group (i.e. Announcement of an event in a city or country), condamning the Group Managers to spam the Members not interested by the Announcement, with the risk of having such Members optout Announcement. I would be OK with LinkedIn strategy if I could have ways to send Annoucement only to parts of the Group,l something I could do when I was able to download email addresses.

    • Access to user information allows better cross platform interaction, online offline interaction, and group management. It creates a bond between the group members and the group organization with a different level of trust than you can find on other platforms. And many of us have uploaded our databases in the first place!

    • If you really valued Group Owners, you good folks would restore the ability to export the membership list. I can't begin to tell you how important that is to managing our newsletter mailing list. We are having to capture email addresses at the point of "request to join" which takes considerable time and now have no ability to manage who has left the community, LinkedIn has made this far more difficult for its valued Group owners. I know there has been a lot of criticism about this change from the Group Owners but we have not heard much response from management which is as much of an irritant as was the change itself. Empowering Group Owners, under a distinct TOS, with better control over how they manage their groups is very important and enhances the experience of all users and assuage the frustration of the Group Owner community.

    • The lack of communication about the changes needs fixing. Linked In really needs to appreciate that Group Manager spend a lot of time and energy managing groups and creating their own processes for running their groups. I think this lack of communication and trust will be detrimental to the future value of Linked In.

    • I rely on the downloadable list to update recipient list for newsletters. Members can opt out of that newsletter, but I have no way of generating the list of members now that this feature has been disabled on LinkedIn.
