Dear Mr. President:

I have written this in the name of Ly Tong's from All the VietNamese community to petition you for the needed intervention in the case of Ly Tong, an American citizen who has been detained by Thai authorities.

On November 17th, 2000 Ly Tong flew a small training airplane over Saigon to drop 50,000 pamphlets calling for peaceful demonstrations against the Vietnamese communists. He was unarmed, could do it only by convincing the flight instructor, hurt nobody and harmed nothing. His actions are considered heroic by the majority of Vietnamese Americans and Vietnamese communities everywhere. Ly Tong has been a staunch human rights fighter not only for Vietnam but also for certain other countries such as Cuba, Cambodia, Laos, etc.

We all know your firm political stand and foreign policy and are sure of your determination to promote the leading role of the United States in the world; therefore, we ask you and your government to do your best, which we rely on, to see that Ly Tong be released the sooner the better.
