WE THE UNDERSIGNED hereby petition the above to do all in their power to pass H.Res.600 recognising Michael Jackson as an "American legend and music icon."

The Resolution, as introduced by Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee and referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on June 26 2009, recognises Michael Jackson as "an accomplished recording and performing artist" and "a noted humanitarian." It was co-sponsored by 12 other Representatives.

It is unconscionable that politics should play a part in Rep. Nancy Pelosi categorically refusing to allow passage of the Resolution. Michael Jackson was acquitted of all charges against him in June 2005. He is therefore innocent and undeserving of such disrespect in death.

We ask that all Representatives put aside their personal opinion of him and that a vote at least be allowed to take place regarding the Resolution's passing.

Michael Jackson spent his life spreading his message of love and world awareness.

All statements in Resolution 600 are fact and not subject to any debate.

Michael Jackson brought much joy through his music and charity work. In fact he donated hundreds of millions of dollars to charity throughout his life.

It is only appropriate that he be recognised for his life's work.

The text of the Resolution can be found at http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.RES.600:

    • I as many others think that Nancy Pelosi would understand what it is like to be accused of something that she says she did not do. However, I do not feel that she is fit to hold the position she does. Evidently, she does not believe that in "We the people's" country, you are innocent until proven guilty. As you know Nancy, Michael was proven innocent. Were you there to witness any of the acts that he was accused of? Did he violate you or your family. How many times have you donated or gone through your closet to give to the needy. Funny how you can justify holding this up, when you yourself need the quote, "Innocent till proven guilty" Who are you to judge, when you are being judged youself. You think Michael Jackson was guilty, I & our Justice System do not, but I as many others think you are.

    • Michael Jackson was the greatest, not only entertainer, but he spent his life spreading love, denonciating racism, injustices..fighting for us all, and trying to help save the planet. The fact that he was accused of molesting children was outrageous, wrong and the proof that some people would do anything for money. It is only fair that Michael is worldwidly recognized for his efforts in helping save the world, for all he did, but also for what he suffered during his lifetime of helping people because of greed and lies. He is now gone, but his message and ideas is as strong as Martin Luther King's and other great fighters's was. He is now among the stars, but he has to be honored here on earth.

    • Michael Jackson fully deserves this honour and (in my heart) I believe him to be "an innocent gentleman" who was "set up" and also "controlled" by certain neferious individuals so that they could either gain money, notoriety, or further their own selfish ambitions, from "a downfall". I also suspect his character was also attacked on many fronts out of sheer judgementalism which is highly prevelant in society these days, mainly due to the irresponsible conduct of "the media" in certain quarters i.e. tabloid newspapers.
