Whereas the Missouri Mavericks hockey team has no connection or reference to Missouri, Independence, Mo., or the Kansas City area;

Whereas the nation's 33rd president, Harry S. Truman, is a native of Independence, Mo.;

Whereas the city is named for the independent spirit by which it was founded;

We, the undersigned, so request that the owners of the Mavericks hockey team change the name to something that is more representative of the area in which the team resides, including "Missouri 33s" and "Independence Independents."
