Petition to Improve the Accessibility of MySpace

I agree with the National Federation of the Blind that MySpace has serious issues with the accessibility of its website for users of screen reading software. I call upon MySpace to work with the National Federation of the Blind to resolve these issues in a timely manner so that blind people can fully participate in the MySpace community.

    • One example of a problem is the Music in the profile Myspace used to be manageable in this regard one could pick a song and link it to his/her page but with window eyes produced by Gw-micro http://www.gwmicro.com I can't do this anymore. Also the site won't let me log in without a code which is put in a inaccessible picture for security. No capcha so I can't sign back in even with the correct user name and password. Guess I'll have to wait until I can find some one who can see to read the screen. This isn't good. And, MySpace has so many fun posabilities too. Lot's of great people to interact with.

    • There are too many captchas on My Space and the playlist feature isn't accessible in a userfriendly way.

    • On other networking sites, addition questions were used rather than typing a secret code.

    • I've noticed that there are captchas that don't have an audible option, so I wrote My Space, but they didn't give me helpful advice!

    • Most things are usable, but the CAPTIA is absolutely killing me. MySpace is one of the few sites I know of now that doesn't have some sort of audio/alternative solution to human varification.

    • I've been a MySpace member for a couple years, but often have to rely on sighted help. I don't know what all I'm missing out on, and find that FaceBook is much easier to use.

    • I would like to be able to organize my friends list independently, but can't at present due to the current state of the MySpace page.

    • I'd like the buttons on music players to be labeled clearly for screen readers to be able to read them correctly. I want to be able to switch songs, pause, or play songs at my convenyance. This could benifit blind users because at times music can interfere with the performance of screen readers, or make it difficult to understand them.

    • I have blind friends who ask me for assistance in navigating MySpace pages, I can tell this frustrates them for they are generally very independent individuals. It would be nice to see them be able to navigate the MySpace pages independently using their screenreaders as they do with other websites.
