The damage has been done by NKF. Whether or not the CEO is sacked is a lost cause. Money has already been lost to the excessive luxuries which the CEO claims to be entitled. What is most important the to see that the remaining large nest egg of public donations stays protected as charitable funds.
Since reports had already stated that with the current business model of NKF with patients co-paying their treatments, its reserves will last 30 years. A large part of the reserves goes into education programs (which I suspect are those drama serials with heavy undertones of "live healthily" & "If not for XXX organization, I would not have made it this far"). However with public trust severely eroded, how effective will their education programmes be? NKF should stop pouring money in there.
With a very conservative estimate of future inflation taking up to 5 years worth of its expenditure, the organisation is still left with a sizeable nest egg of 25 years. To be fair, NKF can keep enough funds for operations for more than 5 years. The remaining 25 years worth of funds should be given to a trustworthy caretaker.
This petition serves to replace costly legal proceedings to pressure NKF to give up its funds as an apology to Singaporeans, young and old, rich or poor for such breach of trust.
Possible destinations of the funds include the government main charity arm: The Community Chest; which is a collection of various charities with stringent checks on their operations. Another donation drive is coming up which is likely to be adversely affected by the saga: The PresidentЇs Star Charity. It could also be a worthy recipient of funds from NKF. Otherwise a public trust fund can be set up, controlled by a prominent public figure such as The President or a statutory board so as to manage the NKF funds to help various charities which lost out in the monopoly of the, sad to say, Charity Industry.
To the NKF: Please stop making use of innocent schoolchildren as your free fundraisers when you can well afford TV extravaganza. Please stop wasting money on employing telemarketers to pressurise us to become your slaves in fundraising cards. They are a nuisance most of the time. Finally please be accountable to the compassionate people of Singapore.

- The more I read and think, the more sick I feel about this whole saga. Where's the moral responsibilty? Durai, please clear things up with the public and be truthful. Mrs Goh, 600k a year is NOT peanuts for 99% of us. Very very disappointed at the state of comments issued. Where is the moral responsibilities to the patients and donors???

- YOU ARE ALL UNDER ARREST FOR MAKING DISSNETING REMARKS ON THE NKF. THOSE WHO DO NOT APOLOGISE WILL BE SUED FOR DEFAMATION AND BE MADE A BANKRUPT. THOSE WHO REFUSE TO PAY WILL GO TO PRISON
-
Harry, wake up!
- Comments
- Hey Harry, give up. Even Ho Ching admits that TTD overstepped the boundaries and the new Committee is conducting investigations. What apology are you talking about? What defamation suit? All the NKF funds are now tightly controlled and cannot be used to buy gold tap or pay lawyers to take out frivolous legal actions. The honeymoon is over for NKF so wake up your idea!

- The most sad thing is that Mrs Goh said 1.4m is a peanut. Maybe Mrs Goh shall understand our family position. 1.4m is not $14 it will take decade to save up that kind of money for normal singapore citizen like me. 60% of singapore earns not more then $50k per yr, how long it should take to save 1.4m? Do ur math. There are always ppl who don't appreciate what a normal low income citizen had done even the lowest income also donates to charity everymonth, please think. The world is always not a FAIR place.

Damm Wary of Charities ...

- Hmm... dis idea not bad leh, EXCEPT that I'm not too sure if the funds should be given to COMCHEST!!! However, a public trust administered by the President "who is standing for another term but NO WORD for the people yet ..." or etc could be a feasible idea. Also, NKF MUST CUT DOWN THE NO. OF EMPLOYEES. They need soooooo many for what LEH?!!!! 1 employee=holding hands of 2 patients undergoing diaysis??!!! If so, den let the patients speak out in gratitude for such personalised service. Cut the fat off man ...NO NEED SOOOO MANY "MANAGERS" - Manage what????!!!! Let there be more controls when disbursing the funds to the other needy ones ... and TRANSPARENCY ..... or better still, return the money to those who have donated & let them decide where to dispense their donations. Waaaaaaaahh ....the Charities disadays evolving to the DARK SIDE man ... so many stolies... SATA now .... who's next???!!!

No more charity shows
- Comments
- I used to donate money during TV charity shows but not any more. There are now too many shows competing for our money. If a charity claims to need money but can afford to pay foreign artistes to perform, it certainly does not need my money.

- NKF should change its name I thought it was run by the Singapore government because of the word National in its name and the way it could get schools to raise funds for it.

- I agree with 4408 that PAP and NKF & Mrs Goh" are totally individuals. However, I still saying that the Ministers' wages are much tooooo high. Old man says that Ministers are paid high to ensure they are clean from corruption.MY FOOT.The corruption is already BUILT-IN their salary. They have no room to corrupt further...Did you guys read Sunday's LianHe Chinese paper?Hawkers are struggling to pay the loans/debts in order to maintain the stall they bought years ago.Paper reported just a peanut of the whole lots, they are many out there. They paid government to own the stalls,$$ went to topdogs' pay packet, don't forget they also need to pay tax to feed the top dogs.

- To prevent people from refering to NKF as a multi-million organisation, NKF should not retain such a huge fund and deprive the rightful beneficiaries (all kidney patients of Singapore) of this source of funds.

- Based on the response to this petition (only over 50 so far), looks like people are in favour of NKF keeping their funds, although they are not really doing a good job!! Perhaps Singaporeans are easily cowed and fooled by the ruling party and their goons.
