Stop NMPAS Budget Cuts

We the undersigned wish to protest the recent decision by the County Council to cut 238,000 from the budget of Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Service; this is outlined in document 2010-11, Budget Proposal Detail, under A3.2.

The Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Service provides an excellent and irreplaceable service to countless young people in this county, and provides them with a unique way of socialising, making music and improving individual skills. We therefore demand that this valued, and effective, provision is not undermined by the proposed budget cuts from Northamptonshire County Council.

    • As a former student at NMPAS I can testify that without a shadow of a doubt I had some of my most formative, and enjoyble years as a result of NMPAS. Please do not cut the budget as this truely would be a tragedy.

    • NMPAS provides an outstanding service through which young people not only socialise and acquire skills and expertise in music but become ambassadors for the County at National and International events. It should remain fully supported by the Council without cuts.

    • The Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Service is one of the truly outstanding features of Northamptonshire. The current teaching provisions and opportunities give young people the chance to participate in nationally-recognised groups and gain valuable and enjoyable skills. The proposed cuts show a lack of appreciation for the fantastic work that NMPAS do. I sincerely hope that the Northamptonshire County Council realise the tremendous value of NMPAS to the young people and community of Northamptonshire, and rethink any potential spending cuts.
