Stop the construction of an unnecessary bridge in Vrindavan

Respected Sirs,

We demand the immediate stop of the building of the bridge around Keshi Gath. It is against the will of all the local residents in Vrindavan. The new bridge threatens Vrindavans heritage ghat. This project is going on without consulting anyone. It is an ecological disaster, unethical and anti-aesthetic.

The bridge brings a freeway in front of the sanctuary. Hundreds of activists are against this and we are collecting signatures for a civic uprising with the support of respectful leaders, citizens and schools students. Several Vaisnava Missions and representants of the World Vaisnava Association joined this public protest.

Next December 25 we will conduct a Bridge breaking ceremony. It is about breaking symbolically a part of the bridge. Also the press was invited so the protest can be seen in the national press . More than 500 kids of the Sandipani Muni School of Vrindavan are joining the pacific march with dancing art. We only see economic interests behind this bridge.

At the outset, it is necessary to mention that our campaign is in accordance with our fundamental duty as citizens by virtue of Article 51 A (g) of the Constitution of India, which enjoins " every citizen of India to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wild life and to have compassion for living creatures".

Please stop the construction of an unnecessary bridge.

    • When I went to Vrindavan for Kartika this year 2009, I was horrified when I saw this ugly bridge ruin the character of Vrindavan. Vrindavan will never be as good with this ugly bridge of a monster. The bridge will continue to worsen the already existing traffic problems. The exhaust fumes of the cars will hasten the destuction of the ancient temples. This is what happend in Italy and Greee. The car fumes corroded ancient buildings and monuments.

    • This bridge project is the worst arcitectural addition to Brindaban. It serves no good purpose, except to provide short term work for locals. The local ferrymen will loose work in the long term. It is not too late, please stop construction immediately
