I would like to make the world aware of a recent situation that occurred between me and Thai Airways. I had booked a flight from Sydney, Australia to Johannesburg, South Africa, with my final destination being Zimbabwe.

Due to political violence in Zimbabwe I had to cancel my trip and requested a refund of my $1900 ticket:
- Thai Airways denied request for refund.

Further to this request - had a family member who required urgent spinal surgery in Zimbabwe (surgery or be paralyzed for life) and needed financial assistance from me as the surgery had to be paid in US dollars. I then forwarded the MRI results and Doctors quotation to Thai Airways as proof that my refund would go to a worthy cause.
- Thai Airways denied request for refund.

Although, the terms and conditions was non-refundable and non-transferable it was my understanding that this would only come into effect if it was just an optional choice. However, a political situation and surgery was not contemplated. Please be aware when booking with Thai Airways, this airline that is not customer focused and DEFINITELY has no compassion for their clients.

As you can see the amount I am requesting for refund would be only a minimal amount for such a big organisation, whilst, I am a full time student and only work part time.

Thank you for taking the time to sign my petition, once I have received 500+ signatures I will be forwarding it on to Thai Airways for them to reconsider my request and their Customer Relations.

    • I think that there should be an option for at least a partial refund considering the circumstances. The airline should look at this case separately and treat it with the compassion it deserves.

    • Correcting a wrong and compensating is costumer care, regardless of if you have bent the law your way. Sometimes common sence should be law. This is one of these times, cause it is only common sence that you return the pay that you have recieved for a product if you end up unable to deliver the product to the buyer.

    • Thai Airlines should consider that even the residents of Zimbabwe are now taking refuge in embassies in Harare. Surely they wouldn't expect their passengers to travel there under these circumstances!

    • I am appalled that this has happened. I will be passing this onto everyone I know. There are so many different airlines out there we don't need to be using Thai Airways anymore.

    • Consideration should be given to Natalia as events since purchasing the ticket have changed dramatically. I will also be talking to my Federal member of Parliament in relation to this matter.
