It has become painfully obvious in the last few years, with the collapse of the economy and the outrageous acts of the rich and powerful, that the biggest problem the United States faces isn't terrorism, isn't global warming, isn't any of the individual issues that plague our nation. The single biggest problem we face is our own political system.
Through campaign and lobbying laws our political system has become little more than legalized bribery.
In an effort to end the march toward oppression that we all face, We the People in the form of the undersigned hereby propose the following law be enacted with all due haste.

It shall be the law that campaigns for public office in the United States will be financed solely by the private citizens thereof. Citizens shall be allowed to donate up to $100 per campaign cycle to the candidate of their choice, and those contributions shall be matched by the FEC using funds from the election check off on US tax forms. The FEC shall disburse those funds only in direct correlation to contributions reported to them under current disclosure laws. No contributions from any entity other than private citizens shall be allowed, and violation of this statute will result in permanent disqualification from elected office for the violator. The FEC shall create and maintain a publicly accessible website containing all relevant data and shall create a paper backup file and shall comply without condition with any request made under the Freedom of Information Act

We believe that whatever great issues we face as a nation it is essential to the public good that our government be beholding to the people themselves and no other entity.

    • Lobbyists, PACS, corporations and special interest groups who line our elected officials pockets often make them renege on the very promises they made to the people who put them in office as evidenced clearly by the elimination of the public option and other pertinent portions of this bill that would have made a real difference in the lives of many Americans like me and this is just one example of many where money is the real factor that dictates what our Congressmen decide to do and it has to stop!!!

    • I believe the petition should be changed to say : "No contributions from any entity other than private citizens shall be allowed, and violation of this statute will result in permanent lifetime disqualification of the violator from holding any U.S. Federal elected or appointed office."

    • It is about time that OUR government responds to the voices of WE THE PEOPLE instead of the corporatists who are destroying our country.
