We, the undersigned, wish to express our discontent and dismay regarding the cut back Dublin Bus Nitelink services.

The complete abolishment of midweek services and the cutback of weekend services will have a massive social and economic impact on Dublin. Hundreds of jobs are at risk as nightclub and bar owners, food outlets and convenience stores will be discouraged to open late during the week while the cut backs will result in scrambles for taxis and may lead to an increase in anti social behavior as thousands of people are left to rely on taxis after 3AM.

People will be discouraged to visit the city centre at night as there will be no cheap public transport alternative to taxis after 11.30PM, contributing further to business closures as fewer people frequent the city centre and stay in the suburbs.

Dublin Bus has provided this efficient and reasonably priced service to thousands of punters over the years and it is a shame to see the services being abolished with no consultation with the general public. While some Nitelink routes may be unprofitable, they provide an essential service for late night workers and revellers who cannot afford to spend 25-30 on taxis to the far flung suburbs of Dublin.

We find the decision to cut back Nitelink services very discouraging, and to spring such a decision on the public with little warning or consultation with the public or business owners is inconsiderate, disrespectful, and can potentially result in the death of Dublin's vibrant nightlife.

We ask that you heed us, the general public, and reconsider this shocking decision.

    • This is preposterous given the amount of people that rely on this service as a result of urban sprawl, which is a clear result of Government policy. What is this going to achieve?

    • To completely slash all services is unfair. If cuts must be made, the service could have been reduced during the week (eg. one Nitelink at 2 o'clock) and/or similar routes could have been emalgamated.

    • The old weekday nightlink service was insufficient, why not have a nightlink at 3 during the week insted of 2? clubs close at half two, shouldn't this be taken into account when deciding on nightlink times?
