We the undersigned are opposed to plans to build a secondary academy on the Fenstanton School site.

Why we oppose the plans:

Local people are shocked at the poor level of consultation amongst local residents and parents.
Local residents are overwhelmingly opposed to increasing traffic and the number of people entering the estate. Local roads cant sustain such heavy traffic.
The plans mean that the 2 schools will accommodate over 2,000 pupils about 3 times the present number.
The plans include a loss of green space and trees: our children and community need their green spaces and play areas.
The plans are to rebuild Fenstanton Primary School on less than the size of the existing site. The building will be on 3 floors, which is unsuitable for young children.
The plan includes shared facilities between primary and secondary. Parents are concerned about younger children sharing a site with older children.
The building work will cause dangerous noise and dust levels.
Fenstanton Primary School Management and Governors have asked for a shared ethos with the secondary academy; but academies have a business agenda, they are non-democratic, anti-union, and they exclude more children than community schools.
Local residents are concerned that plans for the community centre involve rebuilding it on a smaller piece of land and this will limit its accessibility and use.

    • I agree with the points made in the petion and in addition to pressure on the local roads, the transport available cannot support an influx of up to 2000 pupils daily or else there is no evidence that thought has been given to this.

    • These plans will have a negative effect on children's education, due to cramming two schools into the space of one, and will also negatively affect green space on St Martin's Estate

    • This is a really scandalous approach to local decision-making. The 'consultation' process was a sham and the attempt to steamroller the scheme through the Council despite overwhelming concern from nearly all affected parties completely defeats the object of local democracy.

    • Lambeth need to think much more carefully about where it sites a secondary school, the factors for making it sustainable and integrated within the commnuinity are not about just choosing a site because it is there then making up arguments to justify this decision.

    • We are absolutely against the Academy. There is already a large Primary school; Jubilee, and a very large Secondary school with a Sixth Form; St Martin-in-the-field. It is neither feasible nor fair, for the residents and the local community.

    • The plan to sandwich a large number of learners on such a small site presents a myriad of major problems. This plan is not an appropriate solution to address the need for another secondary school. Let's have a community secondary school, not a shadowy academy, and ensure it is on a site large enough to house it.
