We the undersigned Vancouver residents call on Vancouver Mayor and City Council to impose a moratorium on all gaming expansion in our municipality pending a full and comprehensive public review of gambling, its regulation, and the appropriate gaming revenue sharing formula with municipalities and non-profits.

Gambling has expanded in BC at a rapid rate without public review or consultation. Police and news reports have revealed a concerning link between casinos and organized crime and money laundering. The time for full airing of all concerns relating to gambling policy is BEFORE expansion is approved in the City of Vancouver. We call on Vancouver City Council to vote NO to the expansion of Edgewater Casino.

    • A big, window-less behemoth on the waterfront? Where is the logic in that? We are missing out on a wonderful opportunity to do something creative in that desirable location. What about schools that are so sorely needed in that neighbourhood (yah, let's have neighbourhoods!), and housing? A casino is just so low-life, a place of countless tragic stories.

    • I had a friend in Halifax who became addicted to those horrid Video Lottery Terminals, found in bars and corner stores. He threw himself out of his office window and it took him 3 days to die

    • Please take a moment to listen to your constituents and experts who oppose this casino. The proposed expansion of the current casino only benefits its owners at the expense of Vancouverites who will bear the burden of managing the inevitable and detrimental social effects. BC Lottery Corporation has not been successful at curbing gambling addiction, and by expanding the current casino, will enable addicts greater access to gambling facilities as well as increase the likelihood of more people succumbing to this illness.

    • I hope city council makes the right decision, I love our fair city, and to see its skyline marred with this monstrosity seems very sad... a new museum would be a fantastic idea..and throwing money away down a slot machine is not my idea of fun... why has the government become reliant now on gambling?
