During a recent interview on Good Morning America, Dr. Nancy Snyderman (who is NOT a specialist in the field of reproductive medicine) made the following comment when asked about women who have a difficult time affording the expensive drugs needed for assisted reproductive techniques:

Well, this is--this is sort of the dicey part. Perhaps not every woman is supposed to be fertile. I know people don't want to hear that. But if, in fact, this is an expensive course, and it is, should insurance companies pay for something that is not medically necessary, or should we alter the medical system to say, 'Yes, you should have the right to have a baby, therefore insurance companies should pay'? I don't think they're going to pony up anytime soon, because it is a very big pricetag.

Please sign this petition, which will be sent to Good Morning America, ABC and Disney. We would like the powers that be to re-address this issue, with an expert in the field of reproductive medicine and for Dr. Snyderman to apologize for her ignorant, off the cuff comments. Its comments like these that reflect the ignorance surrounding infertility and its treatment, and most importantly the need for legislation to help the innumerable couples that are afflicted with this disease. Wed like GMA to call attention to the FAITH Act, which would make coverage for infertility treatment available, and urge for public support of this important legislation. In addition, by signing this petition, you are saying that you will choose not to watch Good Morning America until amends are made for this horrendous and heinous error in judgment on their part, as well as Dr. Nancy Snyderman.

    • My family will boycott GMA and all things Disney until GMA runs a segment teaching others about the grief, fear, and life crisis that accompanies this terrible reproductive disease.

    • Maybe she needs to find out what it is like ,not to have children and not be able to pay for the one thing that will help. Thanks to some very nice people in my doctors office, I got alittle help with the meds., because I am in no way rich enough to afford the high cost of the injectibles that I needed.

    • I wonder if Dr. Snyderman would feel the same way about women who experience breat cancer. Does she believe that not every woman is meant to have two breasts?

    • If she has the right to be called a medical professional, then by GOD I have a right to have a child. I can not believe the ignorance and stupidity of some people. Does she have enough room in her mouth for her other foot also. Maybe she needs a new profession!!

    • She should be ashamed of herself, obviously she is too far from the situation to really know what a woman goes through deparately wanting a child to complete their family. Shame on her and GMA.

    • Yes, every woman and man is supposed to be healthy and be able to have children. I believe that is the way that nature, or God, intended every woman and man to be. Infertile men and women have rights to be healthy just like anyone else with a disease. That, I believe is the WILL of God. I don't accept Good Morning America's interpretation (and while I understand that they have the right to air different people's opinions, they also have the responsibility of the consequences of those opinions.)

    • For someone who has suffered infertility for five years now, I am dump-founded that such an ignorant person would comment on something that he or she knows nothing about. God, help her that she or no one she loves will ever go through infertility.

    • It seems to me that my body has been sending me very strong messages since the time I was about 13 that I AM meant to conceive a child. How dare Dr. Snyderman make such an insensitive comment as to say that maybe some women aren't meant to be fertile. I am not only furious at such an insensitive comment but after 3 years of dealing with infertility I'm heartbroken. This viewer has moved on.

    • Until you've experienced infertility you don't know the pain that we suffer. In many cases infertility is caused by many diseases. Please get your info straight!

    • What kind of insensitive fool would make a comment like that? Maybe Dr. Nancy Snyderman would think differently if she, herself, were infertile? Her stupidity is quite obvious. I mean, let's hear her most genius answer for this one.....Insurance companies pay for people NOT be fertile anymore....such as with vasectomies.....tubals.....the pill, etc. So, if they can pay for people NOT to have kids.....why shouldn't they pay for the infertile couples to have babies when they're able to care for them and provide them with a good home? I believe an apology is MOST definitely in order regarding her very unintelligent comment!!
