This petition is to serve as a boycott, and notice to the producers of the new Eddie Murphy movie Meet Norbit (Dreamworks, SKG). I am disgusted and horrified at this depiction and demonization of dark-skinned women, particularly overweight women in 2007. In this movie, Norbit, played by Eddie Murphy, has been subjected to a series of mishaps in his short life. He is engaged to a "boisterous, aggressive, rude, repulsive, crude character" that happens to be dark-skinned with prominent African features, played by Mr. Murphy. Coincidentally, Murphy's character is saved by a very thin, bi-racial woman with European features (Thandie Newton) which sends a clear message that white or almost white women will rescue black men from the perils of dark-skinned African women. Though I am long-time fan of Eddie Murphy, his preference for almost white women has not gone unnoticed. As a human being, Mr. Murphy, has every right to choose whom he dates, falls in love with, and marries; male, female or transgendered.

As a veteran in the entertainment industry, and as a father, Mr. Murphy should more sensitive in the images that he chooses, and cognizant that life, does in fact imitate art. I have no doubt that the imagery and messages in this movie will have disastrous effects on the self-esteem of African American woman, particularly the obese in this country. This LATEST demonization of the black woman speaks to a deep self-hatred that Mr. Murphy has for himself and for dark-skinned women.

I am asking for your support in this online petition that will be forwarded to Dreamworks, SKG entertainment, SKG before the release of this modern day buffoonery. We welcome your comments of support and or/opposition.

Thank you.

    • I saw the trailer and some posters and thought it was a joke at first but this is a shame. So what if he does not want to date black women but the way he makes black women look in this movie is unreal. Maybe he really is homo like people are saying.

    • There are a few boycotts planned surrounding this movie. If we don't stand up for ourselves and demand respect, who will fiight for us? I'm sure no other ethnic group would be subject to such humiliation. He did not have to do this.

    • This is really sad. What's even sadder is the fact that a lot of us will probably go and see it, without realizing that he's making fun of his own race. Go see a real movie, like "Daddy's Little Girls". Hit 'em where it hurts; the pocketbook!

    • we don't have this problem too much in my country, but we know eddie does not like african women. maybe he just likes light better but this movie is insulting to africans, american africans and those who are struggling with weight. i dont think i will support this. i think thandie is a good actor but she needs to eat something too.

    • After seeing the previews, I questioned why Eddie would go backwards in film quality after making Dreamgirls. The movie doesn't look funny, but sends a negative message about black people.

    • Please quit perpetuating stereotypes....give the black community something positive, different, unique, and creative. Movies like this are old and no longer funny. I am saddened Eddie Murphy thinks this is positive and creative as a actor/creator. Can't we please began depicting African Americans in a more positive light without the stereotypes. Dreamworks, SKG, and Eddie Murphy owe it to the community and his African American children.

    • It's time for the media to start accurately depicting black women of all shades. Dark or light, we have beauty all across the board. I haven't watched television in 2yrs and refuse to support anymore movies until I see some REAL changes in the way my people are portrayed in the media - and I'm turning most of my friends off to t.v and movies by the second. Just let me have 1 good hour with them, I'll make sure they never see another movie like Norbit. You (black)people should be ashamed of yourselves.

    • i see my comment was taken off of this petion because of what i said, whomever statred this petion know they're not right for taking down my comments. I guess this will get taken down also, please as i said there are far more issues in America that need to be addressed than a damn movie, such as Aids in the black community and ya'll worried about a damn movie. As i stated before im a dark skinned plus size female and im not offended by the movie. Boycott important issuessuch as some rap, where derogatory words about women is in majority of the rap songs, wheres the boycott/petion for that? I can say more but im not, as i stated its a movie, entertainment purposes only.
