SAVE THE HERITAGE OAK TREE ON SHERMAN LANE, WILTON CALIFORNIA 95693
The County of Sacramento wants to cut this magnificent Heritage Oak and Landmark tree down because they say it could fall. It is their opinion that it has decay in it. (I state that it is ONLY THEIR OPINION). It would be nice if we could say when we might die which is the same difference. Help us to say NO to the execution of our Heritaage Oak and Landmark tree.
We are a small country Township of Wilton, CA 95693 who needs everyone's help desperately to save our Heritage Valley Oak and Landmark tree. This tree measures 241 Inches in circumference and approximately 80 feet high and the crown spread is 69 to 70 feet. It is estimated to be 300 years old.
It is located in the middle of our country road in the dirt. This tree is green, healthy and growing lots of new growth. It is a happy tree.
The road has a very small amount of car traffic and possibly 4 to 6 pedestrians daily. The road could be closed off without no inconvenience to the thirteen people tht live on all the acreage on this block. This tree is great for our environment. It has a cooling effect and helps take pollution out of the air besides its beauty that we see. It supports many species of wild life including a Swainson's Hawk which is on the endangered species list. The old growth oaks are stronger than the trees that are planted now because they have adapted to many changes in the environment which are not favorable to many plants. The Heritage Valley Oak is the monarch of California by virtue of its size, age and beauty. This magnificent tree is endemic to California and possibly North America declaring it very unique.

- What perceived benefit is there to removing the tree? What catastrophic event will occur if the tree remains? Let it stand!

- Valley Oaks trees are increasingly rare due to unmitigated development. These trees provide ecosystems for a number of animals, some of which are on the federal endangered species list. If there are endangered species in or around this tree then the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service needs to be involved to help you. {http://www.fws.gov/endangered/} Nature and development can coexist together but it takes creative engineering to come up with solutions. People forget that a tree is a living being and treat them as an object not a creature. If the tree is ill, provide proper health care for it. As an engineer I challenge you to find a better solution for your road. I wish you well in the cause to save this Heritage Valley Oak.
