This petition is to encourage people to inform the Canadian government of the dire need to have the word "disabled" changed to a "Person with a Disability".
This term was discovered in the Glossary of the book "Six Degrees of Dignity: Disability in an Age of Freedom" by David W. Shannon B.A., LL.B, LL.M as "PWD Person with a Disability.
As a recently disabled person that does not see myself as "disabled" and refuses to pass prejudice upon anyone else I was encouraged to try to change something I didn't like about my country's law. Although Canada has been a world leader with how we are able to protect "disabled" people we are not done yet. Lets set an example for the rest of the world to follow.
Definitions:
disability (noun)
1 definition
1: the condition of being unable to perform as a consequence of physical or mental unfitness; "reading disability"; "hearing impairment" [syn: disablement, handicap, impairment]
prejudice (noun)
3 definitions
1: a partiality that prevents objective consideration of an issue or situation [syn: bias, preconception] v
2: disadvantage by prejudice
3: influence (somebody's) opinion in advance [syn: prepossess]
e.g. A lady with a bag. Versus A bag lady.

- My mother has MS and we have hundreds of troops coming back from Afghanistan injured. They are able, a part of their body is not as able as the rest of us but are still human and don't deserved to be talked about as if they are half dead or wastes of flesh

- Having a disability doesn't always mean unable to do things. Having a disability that can't always be seen doesn't mean you don't have it or that there isn't anything wrong. Chronic pain is a disability that needs to be acknowledged.
