Subject: Playground is our Fundamental Right.
Not everyone who Plays in a Park wins an Olympic Medal .. but everyone who has won an Olympic Medal has played in a Park.
Respected Sir,
We the Children of Greater Kailash I, New Delhi request you to use your good office and ensure that we are not deprived of our basic recreational need i.e a Playground which we feel is our Fundamental Right.
The planners of our colony were generous in providing about 12 parks in the area. These Parks are a mix of small and large sized grounds, but unfortunately the facilities that our parents enjoyed in their Teens are being deprived to us.
In our colony the Central Park also known as DUSHERA GROUND was a Play Ground since the Colony came up, even Marriages, Dusherra and other functions were organised in this ground. In 1996 came a Supreme Court ruling that Parks should be brought back to their normal use ie. stop their misuse for Commercial / Marriage purposes.
MCD in its over zealous endeavour to follow the court orders, threw the baby out with the bath water. Under the garb of beautification slowly all the parks are being designated as Ornamental Parks, in this process depriving us of our basic requirements. In our limited understanding Children Playing in Parks cannot be termed as Commercial / Marriage purpose.
Sir, we would like to bring to your kind notice that, the said ground is a virtual DUST BOWL and the children are not allowed to play in the ground.
In fact you can verify the same by visiting the site personally.
We welcome Beautification and Greening of Delhi but it should not be at our cost, lush green trees can be planted along the boundaries of Parks and inner space be segregated for Ornamental, Playground for teenagers and for little children for there swings and slides.
We call on you to ensure that our right to Play is protected and Development of Parks be planned judiciously keeping in mind various stake holders interest.
We hope to get a positive response from you for Posterity. CHILDREN ARE A NATIONS FUTURE should not remain just a Politically Correct Slogan.
Sincerely,

- Yes. I fully agree with this petition. Even we face the same problem in our locality. Handful of people who lives opposite to the parks thinks parks as their private property. They even grow vegetables in the parks. Even Children under 14 are not allowed to play football. Whenever children starts playing the ladies place the benches in the middle of the park to prevent them playing. They even given threats to call the police. We, the parents, are really stressed with this behaviour. In today's times, children are already under stressed due to their study. They dont get enough time to play. They play only for one hour. Playing is very necessary for their mental and physical development.
