Lets send Ellen Pence our love, our thoughts, our analyses, our reflections, our prayers, our spells, our energy, and our memories of her
Lets celebrate Ellen. Lets tell her what she has meant to us and our work. Lets tell her how she inspired us. Lets notice her leadership, vision and accomplishments. Lets celebrate the joy she brought to us by her incredible humor, and how she lightened our load by making us laugh. Lets recognize how her humor led us to deep thought about our work. Lets tell her how she made us intensely uncomfortable and therefore made us think and act. From Freire to the womens groups in Duluth to New Zealand to safety and accountability audits.
Lets celebrate Ellens life. Let us take this moment to practice an act of personal kindness or pledge an action (preferably fun, outrageous and revolutionary) on her behalf!
Ellen, dear heart, delightful woman, incredible warrior in the struggle, we love and honor you. We are all lighting a candle for you to send you strength, endurance and joy during this difficult and painful time. Well be printing out these pages and will send them to you via the internet and through the old fashioned post office.

- Ellen, You have been a bright light shining into the darkness of mens violence against women. Your analysis has been a searing laser cutting through an often murky landscape. Your sense of humor was the teaspoon of sugar that people needed to continue to listen and to attract more people to the table. You have been able to bring people from all backgrounds together in the very important work of ending mens violence against women. You were one of my first teachers. I will miss your voice but will never forget your message

- Ellen, Ellen, I heap up praises for all youve done to lead us toward a broader, hopeful, and just vision, and for laying out the practical steps to get there. Youve not only given people like me a framework to guide my work, but an on-going reminder of the objective and purpose of why we work against domestic violence. I value so much the spirit with which you have taught, organized, and propelled us. In an effort that can so often feel heavy, frustrating, and even depressing (and one in which the conflict amongst others can feed conflict among ourselves), youve shone forth with grace, humor, teasing, caring, life, and persistence. Youve always had time, as well, for a personal touchsuch as a cross-examination about my love lifethat keeps our whole being present and alive. Youve shown me that to work for change and good is to be fully there, as you so have been. With love and gratitude, Ed G.

- Dear Ellen, I met you in a training where we talked about battered women sometimes being angry - As an agent of change, I am often angry & that helps to sustain the efforts to hold abusers accountable & find safety for women & children. Social change requires us to keep going! You have helped me to keep on going & to trust myself.
