Dear Rt. Hon. Gordon Brown,
Re: Urgent Humble Request to Exercise Responsibility to Protect (R2P) Resolution Passed in 2005 to Stop Human Catastrophe in Sri Lanka.
UN Security Council resolutions have repeatedly emphasized the importance of the protection of civilians. Resolution 1674 reaffirms the responsibility to protect populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity, which heads of state adopted at the 2005 World Summit.
Your are fully aware that many Political leaders, Dignitaries, Intellectuals, international press agencies, UN satellite pictures, Amnesty International reports, Human rights watch reports, the International crisis group, Global Centre for the responsibility to protect, President Obamas speech on Sri Lanka and debates on Sri Lanka in British parliament, and your recent comments about Sri Lanka have already confirmed all or many of the following:
War crimes committed by the Sri Lankan Government.
The Sri Lankan Government has failed its primary responsibility to protect their own populations.
Genocide under article 1, 2, 3 and 4 as per UN convention of genocide resolution 260(iii) A of United Nations assembly on 09 Dec 1948.
Lack of protection to civilians in Tamil areas.
Crimes against humanity committed in war zone.
Bombing of hospitals and IDP camps with precision bombs.
Not allowing access of independent media to the affected areas.
Disregarding the world leaders request to stop the war, all these have been happening under heavy artillery fire and bombing on the no fire zone declared by Sri Lankan Government.
I urgently request you that influence your power to exercise immediately the responsibility to protect to bring permanent peace and enduring solution to the Sri Lankan Tamils problem.
Yours sincerely,
