As students, teachers, and school administrators and as citizens of Colorado, we urge you to reject the 300 million higher education funding cut proposed by the Colorado Joint Budget Committee. Higher education offers graduates more job opportunities than those who choose not to pursue their education beyond high school. In a day and age where companies need the best-educated and qualified workforce available to compete on a global market higher education provides indispensable tools for ultimate success. As patrons of higher education concerned about the future availability of quality higher education we ask that you reassess alternatives to bridging the Colorado state budget deficit gap.

    • The best way to achieve long-term economic recovery and well-being is to fund--to INCREASE funding for--higher education immediately--the diametric opposite of drastically cutting funding and perpetuating the undermining of education in this country. Cutting funding to higher education, (and proposing tuition increases), is absolutely unacceptable.

    • It is ridiculous that I already have to take out a loan for COMMUNITY COLLEGE to begin with, this proposal will make it so I won't be able to continue my education. I hope you've got food stamps with my name on them

    • This proposed budget cut to higher education is a sign that our elected public officials do not have their priorities straight. In order for Colorado's economy to remain solvent, it requires an educated workforce. By adopting this budget proposal, Colorado is selling our future to make ends meet today and permanently strapping the futures of our youth to this economic crisis. Please do your best to examine every other possible avenue before simply balancing the budget on the backs of students.
