We, the undersigned citizens of Canada, draw to the attention of Mr. Stephen Harper Prime Minister of Canada, and Mr. Michael Fortier Minister of Public Works, the following:

THAT Mr. Michael Fortier did not run in the federal election of January 23, 2006 and was not elected in any riding in Canada in that election, and

THAT we firmly believe that Canadians should be represented both in the Parliament of Canada and in Cabinet only by democratically elected representatives elected by us, the citizens of Canada.

THEREFORE, we call on Mr. Michael Fortier to immediately resign his post as Minister of Public Works. We further call on Mr. Stephen Harper to appoint Mr. Michael Fortier to the Senate only when and if he is democratically elected to that position.

Sincerely,

    • Unelected persons should not be appointed to senior cabinet positions in a democracy. Appointing unelected friends to such important positions is undemocrating and shows great disrespect for the Canadians by the Prime Minister.

    • Mr Harper ran on a platform of integrity, then promptly gives an unelected person a patronage appointment and a chair in the cabinet. This is integrity?

    • MR. FORNIER HAS NO MANDATE AND MR. HARPER HAS ALREADY ABUSED HIS LIMITED AND MARGINAL MANDATE GIVEN TO HIM BY ONY 23\% OF ELIGIBLE CANADIAN VOTERS ( 65\% X 36\% = 23.3\%). 65\% was voter turn out, TIMES 36\% who voted for conservatives.
