The Rutland Arms on Brown Street Sheffield is one of the finest traditional public houses left in the city today. A hazy haunt for filmmakers, designers, artists, dancers, football followers and builders it provides a cozy pint, a smile and escapism from a faceless city which is furiously regenerating itself. Staff at the Rutland have announced that the pub and its beautiful beer garden are due to close for good on Friday 22nd of December. Phil kept it going all this time and has now decided to move on. What we're concerned with, is that it stays as a pub, its uniqueness and importance recognised, protected and celebrated. IT SHOULD NEVER BECOME A BLOCK OF LUXURY APARTMENTS...............and remain a meeting place for everyone with good ideas.

- It would be a tragedy if this pub, with all its character, was turned into apartments for Leeds' commuters.

- This is one the best pubs in the city --- in any city. Please ensure that it not only remains a pub, but also retains its independent spirit.

- The CIQ (which means the Cultural Industries Quarter, la) is always touted as the saviour of Sheffield. But truth is, unless you work down there, there's no reason to go there at all. There's not much culture to be part of. It feels like one of the most sterile parts of the city. The Rutland is the one thing that gets me down to that part of town. Without the Rutland, there will be no reason for me to ever set foot in our regeneration showpiece. Having said that, we do need more flats. Flats flats flats flats. Flats.

- This is another disaster for Sheffield. All the good bits are slowly being eroded away into a wipe-clean lifestyle nightmare. I only hope the city wakes up to it's charms and celebrates them, rather than consistently bulldozing them before it's too late, and we become a cappucino sipping suburd of Leeds.

- The Rutland is a rare and glorious island of uniqueness and originality in a sea of identikit chain pubs with identikit microwave meals. The interior is wonderfully idiosyncratic and the beer garden the best around. Please don't let it turn into luxury/student flats, office space or a chain/theme pub - it, and everyone round here that love it, deserve better!

- Unique isn't a word you could use to describe most establishments in and around the city centre, but The Rutland is different. It's a pub that combines culture with cosiness, and would be a huge loss to the area. If they need to knock something down, why not take out The HUBs instead?

- The Rutland is a beautiful little pub, please don't demolish it. There are enough apartments in town already, and this pub is the best of its kind in the CIQ area.
