We the undersigned would like to see Steve and Cassie Gaines, members of the Lynyrd Skynyrd band killed in a plane crash October 20,1977, memorialized in their hometown of Miami, Oklahoma. A proposal was presented to the city leaders some time ago to name a street in their honor, however this proposal was rejected. Steve and Cassie were raised and educated in Miami and we feel they should recieve proper recognition for their acheivements.

    • I have been a Skynyrd fan for many yrs, and the "crash" that took Steve and Cassie Gaines life, (as well as the others who died in the crash). still to this day affects thousands of those who have loved Skynyrd, and southern rock music. Steve and Cassie were both very talented young people, who died long before they should have, and it is only fair, and right that they should be honored in their "home" Town of Miami, Oklahoma. In almost every city in the United States, there is a road, hwy, or street named after Martin Luther King. He did not live in all these cities, but he is "memorialized" in them..Why cant these two wonderful people who touched my life and many thousands of others for the past 3 decades with their music, not be "honored" in the same way, in there hometown. To those responsible for making it happen, I ask, that you reconsider, and allow a street to be named in their memory. Thank You

    • Both Cassie and Steve more than deserve this. I would have never even heard of Miami, OK if it wasn't for them. They were both extremely talented and if there is an Oklahoma hall of fame for musicians they should be included in that as well. Miami should be proud that two musicians of their caliber were from there.
