Dear Sir,
We the undersigned urge you to reconsider the proposed closure of Aberdeen Met Office.
The nature and complexity of the Scottish landscapes makes it very difficult to predict the local weather using computer models. The accuracy of forecasts for Scotland is therefore heavily reliant on the experience and knowledge of local effects provided by the dedicated forecasting teams based in Aberdeen.
As well as Scottish forecasts and a range of services for the oil and gas industry, the Aberdeen centre provides information for a number of specialist services such as MarineCall, MountainCall, Winter fishing forecasts, Road conditions, Aviation charts and the SEPA flood warning system.
The availability and accuracy of these products and services is important to those who live, work or spend leisure time in Scotland.
We are, therefore, petitioning you to retain these specialist teams of Scottish and Marine forecasters in Aberdeen.

- as a mountaineer I find the current service invaluble for safty on the mountains (and predicting regional conditions), it would be a great loss if the service is closed down

- Grampian has quite changeable and severe weather and removing this met office station could be a risk to safety and industry, especially tourism related industry.

- The S.W.F.S.M.S.S.S. is currently running at profit . Shell Petroleum has ceased to use its services and presumably is receiving them from elsewhere. The question ; "By whom are their needs being met needs to be asked.

- Scotlands weather forecasts are used more frequently by those in Scotland who live, work and play in worse weather conditions encountered elsewhere in the UK. Do the right thing.
