Dear Second City management and Second City and SCTV alumni,
For the past two years Second City has been holding a charity benefit, "The Benefit of Laughter," featuring a reunion of the famous and talented cast of the groundbreaking sketch comedy show SCTV. The benefit aids those Second City in need of financial and other assistance due to illness or other reasons; a worthwhile cause indeed.
The first benefit was held in Toronto, ON, the home of the original SCTV seasons. The second benefit is to be held on December 11, 2009 in Chicago, IL, the original home of Second City as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations. This annual event is to be held in other cities that have Second City theatre groups, as well as Edmonton, AB Canada where SCTV was produced during what were the arguably the television shows peak seasons in both quality and popularity.
We the fans of SCTV and citizens of Edmonton beseech the management of SCTV to hold the 3rd annual SCTV reunion and Second City Benefit in Edmonton, Alberta Canada in 2010 on what would be the 30th anniversary of its production in "The City of Champions."
Edmonton is no longer the small city it was 30-years ago. It has grown into a more vibrant city with a thriving theatre and arts community. A Second City reunion and benefit in Edmonton would be a great success! Edmonton has many appropriate venues for such an even, The Timms Centre for the Arts, The Myer Horowitz Theatre, The Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, The Citadel Theatre and The Francis Winspear Centre.
Edmonton would be proud and honored to be the next city to hold the annual Second City benefit.
