We, the undersigned, strongly object to Governor Rendell's proposal to balance his budge on the backs of deaf children in PA by cutting all state funding to the Scranton State School for the Deaf, as well as the proposed plan to replace their program with another. SSSD's program is unique in the state of PA. The Governor needs to preserve this valuable educational option for deaf children and their parents in Pennsylvania by restoring adequate state funding to SSSD.

    • It is my understanding that the Commowealth gives the Pittsburgh school for the deaf approximately 9 million dollar a year. SSSD needs less money - approximately 60\% of the money the state gives to PITTSBURGH 'S school for the deaf. It is less expensive to operate and fund SSSD. I wonder if all the people involved in this terrible decision have ever walked in the shoes of a deaf child. I think not, because if they would have spent time trying to understand a deaf childs world including their culture, and needs the Dept of Education would not have recommended to the Governor to close SSSD. Everyone who participated in the decision to close SSSD should have researched SSSD in person first hand and not from an office in Harrisburg. I wonder if all of the people who were involved in the closing would have supported the closing of SSSD if they were deaf or had a family or friend who was deaf. I think not. No Governor even through the depression in 1930's ever decided to close SSSD. WHY NOW?

    • Where did the Lottery money go ? If it received a billion dollar a year, and it should have sent a few more million dollars to the State Deaf school. There is only a State Deaf school and it is inexcusable to cut. Deaf children need to pursue a very quality education. Don't cut it by a few pennies !

    • we need to save our school for many deaf kids and it not worth for many deaf to go another ate for another school it will waste on our taxs money again and also if they go to hearing school or so they will cost a person to sign lanunge will cost them more money to every another person for each deaf school so we need to save scranton state school for the deaf
