I support The Observer's bid to get Hastings Pier open.

By adding my name I am urging Hastings Borough Council to commit to moving things forward and return the pier to the people of Hastings by carrying out a compulsory purchase order from owners Ravenclaw.

They should then hand the ownership over to the Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust.

I also want the council to begin working more closely with the trust to help it get its plans up and running.

Leaving the pier empty and derelict is no longer acceptable.

    • The pier could be a huge asset to the town, leading to employment and re-vitalising the seafront. It just needs support from those who run the town.

    • it is a sad statement to our town that the pier remains unused, there seems to be enough money floating around for the college development, some should be diverted to the sea front...

    • The council must support the HPWRT and get the pier into the hands of people whose interest is to get the pier open and the community involved.

    • yes bring it back but make it something for everyone, not just arcades, slot machines and sweet shops. and finance it in such a way that it doesn't have to cost a fortune for the average family to use;Brighton Pier is now extortionate.
