We, the Survivors, Family Members and Friends affected by the Station Nightclub Fire totally disagree with the June 11, 2005 article in the Providence Journal in support of the Fire Marshal. We feel that Mr Owens' total disregard for the safety of the people in the State of RI and his lack of personal accountability and responsibility with regard to the tragedy that took place on Feb 20th, 2003 shows a complete lack of professionalism. You have heard from his many friends and political supporters that all have their own agendas; now is the time to hear from the real voice of the people affected by his past failures. We the undersigned respectfully request that you; Governor Carcieri, in your position of authority do NOT reappoint this man in his position. We need a NEW voice, a new future for of those who entrust their safety and that of their loved ones to the State of RI.

    • As the former president of a Station nightclub-related non-profit I've made many friends within the community most directly affected by the fire and the one common theme they all express is the deep resentment they feel for the fire marshal. To have him reappointed would cause them great pain and disregard all the work they've done lobbying for more safety by reinstating the man they feel most responsible for the tragedy.

    • This idiot needs to be found guilty for not doing his job right in the first place, He is part of the problem that claim the lives of 100 young people, If i had a voice in this matter, i would say give him a new job, ( title ) ( STATION NIGHT CLUB PARKING LOT SWEEPER ) maybe that finally knock some sence into his head and realize that letting things slide to pass inspections or not catching what is not correct, then we and he would not be in this position, Need i say more

    • It's a shame this man has been still able to work after no re-appointment a year ago---he failed to do his job, he failed to find the Station owners in violation of more than one or two fire code violations, he failed the 100 people who died and all those who survived. In my book, failing never got you to the next grade - DON'T LET HIM PASS!

    • Governor if your care about us at all please do not reappoint this man. He didn't do his job the first time and I am burned 40% and my fiance is dead. Put an end to this man being able to to this again. We will never feel safe again with these people still working and inspecting public building.
