Tim Horton's is one of the largest brands to market its distinct Canadian identity. Fairness, equality, and helping those in need are values that many Canadians are proud to identify with their country; we, the undersigned, hope that Tim Horton's will embrace these Canadaian values and join other coffee retailers in offering Fair Trade Certified coffee on its menues. Other major retailers, like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts, and smaller operations, like Perks and Just Us, already offer Fair Trade coffee on their menues - Certified by TransFair or other Fair Trade Labeling Organizations, and although Tim Horton's Sustainable Coffee Program is a step in the right direction, it does not provide the same degree of accountability that Fair Trade Certification guarantees. While Fair Trade Certified coffee producers may not yet have the capacity to produce the vast quantity of coffee needed to supply all of Tim Horton's franchises, there is certainly enough availability to offer "Fair Trade coffee" as a menu item seperate from Tim Horton's traditional coffee.

In short, we believe that Canadians would be willing to pay an extra few cents per cup if it were officially Fair Trade Certified. Offering Fair Trade coffee on your menues would benefit everyone; coffee farmers would be guaranteed a fair price for their product and appropriate working conditions, customers would have the opportunity to support these farmers and Tim Horton's would be able to capitalize on a new menu item reflecting Canadian values.
