We, the undersigned members of the UCSB community, ask that you defer decisions about how cuts are to be implemented till the community has a chance to hear and express itself at the next Town Hall Meeting. Please stand with us in supporting the future well-being of our university.
Specifically, we ask that you allow us:
1. To make furloughs highly visible, so that everyone can see, hear and feel the impact of these cuts. If we do not, we are failing to educate the citizens of California about the dangers that lie ahead.
2. To make furloughs time equitable, common and coordinated, in order to foster campus unity, work equity, and visibility.

- A Town Hall meeting should be held prior UCSBs administration making any definite decisions on furloughs. If we must impose them, we should implement them in a way that makes sense to both long and short-term goals. Please allow our faculty and staff to have input.

- Transparency is the only way to garner trust. And UCOP and the State do not have the trust of any California educator, staff, student, and worker.

- This situation is shameful and its disgusting that it's happening at all, but if it must, please show the people of California and their representatives how much it damages our already hobbled system.

- I am extremely worried about the fate of our graduate students and recommend renewed talks to implement fair measures for them.

- I urge UCSB and the folks at Cheadle, via the web page, press releases, et al., to make the impact of these cuts more visible and to articulate a vision of exactly what we are being asked to sacrifice for.

- The furloughs have to be as visible as we can make them as a deterrent to further cuts
