A few weeks ago a UE local 150 union member, housekeeper Nedra Rollins from the Vet School at NC State University, was unjustly fired. She has been a long time union member that has stood up for others.
We are calling on students to support her, sign and circulate this petition.
Some background to Nedra's case:
At the Vet School, all workers and students are given ID badges that act as swipe keys to enter the building. In August, the management began to demand that housekeepers leave their badges on campus when they leave work. This is a violation of the current ID badge policy that states that all workers are to have ID badges on them any time they are on campus. Housekeepers were the only people on campus that were asked to hand in their ID badges at the end of their shift. Other campus workers and students were not asked to do this. Housekeepers feel this is discrimination. There has been a long history of blaming housekeepers when campus property such as computers and tvs are stolen.
Nedra refused to hand in her badge as she knew it was a violation of the ID badge policy and feared having police being called on her while waiting on campus for management to arrive before her shift. She was then fired for insubordination.
UE 150 believes that collective action is the best method to assure victory for working-class people.
Also, give Housekeeping Asst. Director, Albert Scott, a phone call at 919-515-9841 or email at albert_scott@ncsu.edu to show your support for Nedra and to end discrimination against housekeepers.

We, the undersigned workers and students at N. C. State University, are appalled that the University administration discriminates against housekeepers. The housekeepers at the Vet school were asked to separate from their I.D. badges at the end of our shift while other workers and students were not. We also call for the reinstatement of Nedra Rollins job who was unjustly fired on Sept.11, 2008.
