For the past decade or so, the United Kingdom's success rate in the Eurovision Song Contest has been dismal, our most recent victory occurred in 1997 with Katrina & The Waves, our most recent success story being our 3rd position in the 2002 contest.

Now we are a nation resigned to defeat, but this does not have to be the case - in essence, we have merely sent poor entries year on year and it is about time we rectified this and reclaimed our old Eurovision success rate!

Fans of the contest itself have detailed a foolproof plan of action requiring the BBC to approach several music legends and begin negotiations for them to get involved in the selection process. The legends of music are then whittled down by the general public on Making Your Mind Up (the official selection program), when the winning artist - having had several songs written for the purposes of the contest - selects the song and proceeds to carry out a promotional tour of Europe, in time for the contest itself in May of 2009.

The current legend favoured above all others is Dame Shirley Bassey. Other artists that have been suggested are Sir Paul McCartney, Lesley Garrett, Sarah Brightman, Robbie Williams, Sir Cliff Richard, Take That and Gina G (again).

So the plan is that this petition gets circulated and acquires as many signatures as it can before the end of November, then it can be sent off to the BBC along with a covering letter and then Dame Shirley Bassey will be gracing the stage before you can say Thunderball!

    • The UK needs to send a good song for the chance to win Eurovision again. It's as simple as that. I've had enough of seeing failed X-factor contestants, I want to see an actual legitimate performer. Please BBC, take note, and allow the Brits some success in the Eurovision song contest again!

    • Yes to Shirley Bassey, and absolute NO to Lesley Garrett, can I suggest KATIE MELUA - its Katie or Shirley if we want to win, maybe Mika would be a good choice! (oh and Gina G tried since 1996, was crap and failed end of story there!)

    • I would also like to see the likes of Andrew llyod webber to get involved with the song writing side of it. And I agree with the promotion tour of europe because we never do it and I feel thats one of the reasons why we fail.

    • If Dame Shirley Bassey was to represent the UK in Eurovision, I have no doubt that the UK will win the contest easily.
