We request that all UK television listings should be made freely available under similar terms to the GNU General Public License or Creative Commons License.
By releasing television schedule details into the public domain many web sites will be able to integrate this information into their content, creating a tighter convergence between the web and television which will benefit advertisers, broadcasters, webmasters and importantly, the viewing/surfing/consuming public.
Currently anyone publishing TV listings in the UK is required by law under the 1990 Broadcasting Act to pay a royalty to the relevant broadcasters. BDS collects this royalty for the broadcasters (BBC, ITVA and Channel 4). More information regarding BDS can be found here, http://www.bds.tv/

- Just to add, I use a pvr on a pc which no longer has any support. I wrote a cute program for myself to automate recording of tv programs/series. Without freely available schedules, we are moving back into the Dark Ages...

- why are tv companies allowed to make their own rules up? it's time that they all did what they're told but a governing body, instead they have us all over a barrel.

- Do the people on this petition really think ITV is denying tvguideuk the right to publish their schedule out of spite to them and television viewers? Think about it, would they really go out of their way to upset potential viewers? Of course not. What this is about is ITV wanting surfers to visit their website increasing their hit figures to attract advertisers to their site. Is that wrong? No. After all thats exactly why tvguideuk wants to list these schedules themselves. So come on tvguideuk, don't be tight, pay ITV for what is rightfully their's. That way everyone is happy. ITV get paid, we get a full listing, and you get more advertising revenue.

- Definitely all channel listings should be free on the internet. It's an information service for accessing information!! The internet is provided free in libraries as an information resource. The Metro & The Evening Standard newspapers are free. The internet TV listings are aspects of a combination of both these services; therefore internet listings should be free in themselves.
