As the creators of the FIFA series of soccer videogames, we would first like to commend you on an exemplary series of products. This series allows fans throughout the world to feel a closer connection to the sport as well as their favorite teams.
With more than 500 teams and 30 leagues featured in FIFA 09, it is with dismay that we must note the absence of the United Soccer Leagues First Division. The United Soccer Leagues First Division (USL-1) represents an integral part of professional soccer in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. By not including the clubs in the USL-1, fans in 11 major continental markets (13 by 2010) feel left out from this great videogame experience.
We believe that if the FIFA 09 games can feature several second-tier leagues such as the English Football Championship. The French Ligue 2, the German Bundesliga 2, and the Italian Serie B fans in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico could and should have their clubs included in the FIFA series. Beyond just being the second tier of US and Canadian soccer (behind the MLS), the USL-1 has proved to be very successful not only domestically but also internationally. Case in point, the success demonstrated by the Puerto Rico Islanders and the Montreal Impact in the regional CONCACAF Champions League. This success brought increased media attention from such faraway countries as Spain and Italy, hinting at the interest that these teams have generated abroad.
By not including the USL-1 league. EA Sports is missing out on several large and important potential fan markets such as Montreal, Cleveland, Puerto Rico, Portland, and Miami. With the inclusion of the USL-1 clubs, we are positive that the FIFA games would become even more popular in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This would also help increase the popularity of the league and the sport in the previously mentioned countries.
We sincerely hope that through this petition Electronic Arts will realize the great potential that including the USL-1 has in increasing the sales and popularity of the FIFA games franchise. USL-1 fans from all over the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico await eagerly for a positive response from your company.
