Virgin Media is set to introduce Bittorrent throttling technology next year. This means that anyone wanting to use Bittorrent or similar services will no longer be able to (or with a severely degraded service).
This goes against not only net neutrality but, from a customers view, any fairness considering they advertise the service as "unlimited".
Virgin Medias CEO Neil Berkett has stated to The Register that the above is planned for mid 2009, meaning it is not too late to avoid this insane decision!
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/12/16/virgin_bittorrent/
It is an absolute disgrace that Virgin, often regarded as the best provider of high speed internet required by paying customers for bittorrent etc, should turn its back on all its top service customers...does Berkett really think people will sign up for a 51 50MB service that is restricted??
I suggest that Virgin Media abandons this course of action and stands behind the principles that have made VM popular in the beginning (prior to Berketts appointment to the role!). Failure to do so WILL see XL/XXL customers leave like rats off a sinking ship!
Please Virgin, do not destroy an application that is leading the way in online distribution of data.

- It's a joke, since Blueyonder was overtaken, VM has gone downhill. Offshore call centres, caps, throttling, what a joke.

- The average person is stupid. Nice job exploiting their pockets during the current credit crunch. For the few that can walk & talk at the same time offer a TRUE unlimited service at a price that is fair.
- Are you a Virgin Media Customer?
- For the time being, Until a I find a TRUE Unlimited service

- Virginmedia would be happy if we all used our internet like we did on dial-up, i.e. browsing a few web pages and checking our emails. Sorry, but we pay broadband prices for a reason - to use it as it was intended. To download large files as and when we like. I supported your 'Traffic Management' as it was fair....but what you plan to do is an insult to the people who have kept you in business. Target Bittorrent and I WILL move to another ISP. That simple.

- This is insanity. The Bittorrent protocol is one of the main drivers for demand of Virgin's high end services. If they throttle this protocol, there will be no need to use a 50MB or 20MB connection. Just browsing the web and checking your emails really doesn't use up much bandwidth. No wonder Virgin are losing millions of pounds a year with idiot policies like this.

- "our traffic managment policy makes sure our service is fair for everyone".... how does it make it fair for me? i pay 37 for my 20 mb XL broadband so how is nocking it down to 5 mb fair for me?. how about nocking the pice down by 75\% for those periods aswell, thats fair.
