    • The script is story and character. No one works without it. US-based media historically has marginalized writiers. UK, by contrast, bills writers second only to directors. Strike is long-overdue, predictable and could have been thwarted by reasoned, fair negotiation. What's very sad is the collateral damage to those employed in the industry now out of work. Retribution should come to those who failed to concede reasonable upgrades to the writers

    • Not to be crass, but screw the corporate fatcats. Let them do the writing if it's so commoditized.

    • If the producers think _they_ are risking the big money, then pay the writers more and put less into production. The early Star Trek and Dr. Who had AWFUL effects. They were excellent television. We want plot and character more than gloss, glitz, or explosions.

    • As a writer, I support and respect this important strike and am shocked at the lack of principle on the part of the studios.

    • Writers deserve fair compensation for their efforts. It is sad that such a spectacle is necessary to convey this simple point.
