This petition aims to make the councillors of the City of Bradford change their thinking about the Westfield Development in the city centre. As the development has been delayed until at least next year we feel this is the perfect time to suggest that the space be changed into a park space.
The suggestion is that the plot be covered over so that the space is flat and the car park beneath can be used. The flat space above, we believe should then be landscaped and made into suitable parkland by Bradford Parks and Gardens department. This means that the investment be left behind but it also means that the money designated for the City park near centenary sq be put to better use for a space that needs it more.
A park space in this city centre would cut down dramatically on the need for investment in a new development as there would be little need for new land works and the funds needed to encourage business into the city centre would be greatly reduced as there are already many vacant buildings to be moved into. it would also reduce investment into the current proposed city park because there would be no need to knock down any buildings or tear up any already functioning land. This means a lose to some investors but we suggest that this fact should be ignored and the wishes of the citizens be honoured instead.

- Why destroy centenary square, when there's a big gravel pit that could become the greatest urban oasis

- We are awash with expensively built office spaces that remain empty. Bring on green spaces and air to breathe.

- The space and views created by knocking down the buildings are an asset that can be enhanced by developing a new park here. We don't need more shops in Bradford, we need more green space.

- Look, I know it's hard for people to own up to the redundancy of their long held ideas, but that space has been a predictable disaster since it was built on the last time. Think differently for once, and listen. People don't need new places to spend money they don't have on things they don't need. That's not prosperity, it's a con trick. Public spaces for the public. No more vanity-project dead-horse flogging.

- And, what about a beautiful indoor garden like the winter gardens in Sheffield city centre? So plants from around the world can be grown to reflect Bradford's populations, can be used all year round, and an attached cafe/gallery/plant shop if there is the need for some cmmercial gain? Look at what Sheffield have done - it's fantastic

- Really is a no-brainer - we want a park not a shopping centre - additionally, this will get more shoppers into Bradford than another Boots, another Matalan and another Greggs. Why compete with Leeds on being a centre of disposable rubbish for sale?

- Great idea, we have enough spaces for shops, now let's make a very needed green space for people!
