We, the undersigned, believe the Ground Zero memorial should designate special recognition for the bravery and sacrifice of the firefighters, police officers and other uniformed rescue workers who died saving others in the World Trade Center attacks. Further, we request the fallen rescue workers be listed together, alphabetically by department, so their willingness to lay down their lives for others is forever memorialized.

    • An appropriate recognition within the overall memorial for the uniformed rescue personnel who KNOWINGLY AND WILLINGLY GAVE their lives so that others may live is THE LEAST we can do to honor their unprecedented courage and sacrifice!!!!!!!!!

    • Why would anybody not want to recognize their sacrifice? People shouldn't hold the overdone publicity give them by the media against them. They are good men and women (the firefighters, police, emts, court officers and other uniformed rescuers who, in many cases, knew they might not come out alive, as attested to by media reports of firefighters hugging each other saying goodbye.

    • After listening to radio transmissions from the south tower of tthe fire department operations how can any corporation or board not distinguish the bravery of the rescue workers. Thucydides said "the bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them...and yet... go out to meet it"

    • They rushed into the inferno to save lives. That's a recorded fact. Doesn't our society owe a debt of remembrance to those who performed truly heroic acts on September 11, 2001? They gave their lives - what more can one give for one's fellow man? Hasn't our society become better over the years for having had true heros to admire and emulate? Don't our heros make us all a better people? To fail to list the names, ranks, and affiliations of the rescue workers who died that day on a permanent memorial at the site is inconceivable to me. Please think about this Governor Pataki. You have an opportunity to do something right and important here. Don't fail us. Thank you.

    • It is unthinkable that the Emergency personnel who gave their lives on 9/11 would be recongnized as victims but not as the heroes that they were. There are many people alive today because of their sacrifice.

    • Let's not forget what these guys did so that others might live! This is a small request for those who gave so much. Listing the rescue workers together does not diminish the death of any other victim.

    • The rescue workers should be listed together with their ranks and designations. They were there, not merely because of a call to duty, but out of a calling above and beyond any duty.

    • The word "hero" is overused in our society, probably because we are always looking for heroes but accepting mediocre alternatives. Failing to appropriately recognize the uniformed heroes who died on 9/11 only diminishes the values we claim to hold as a society, when we have the opportunity to remind others of what makes America great.
