Keewaydin offers 48 camp sites that over look the St Lawrence River. Campers have enjoyed all that the 1000 Island region has to offer including historic sites and local commerce. The sheltered marina offers docking for seasonal and transient boaters, making it a major stepping stone to other areas of interest on the St Lawrence River. Keewaydinвs outdoor pool has been used for years to teach swimming and water safety to our communityвs youth. Keewaydin IS an integral part of our Town of Alexandria and Village of Alexandria Bay. Closing Keewaydin State Park is NOT the answer to NY states fiscal problems. Closing Keewaydin WILL have a devastating impact on the economy in the 1000 Islands region. Closing Keewaydin will HURT all the families that have used this park for decades.

    • Seasonal trailer park residents use the boat launch at Keewaydin because it is close, it's a nice boat launch and you don't have to battle the tight streets to access the town launch

    • If you close Keewaydin not only will we lose the pool where many of our children learn to swim by taking swim lessons there, but also it will hurt the local restaurants. When you're in the business it is a well known fact that if it rains the campers flood the restaurants. Please reconsider!!!

    • Small towns are suffering enough. The answer is to not take from them, but add to them and continue to provide growth. Tourism is the 1000 Islands. Camping/boating is the 1000 Islands. This is a foolish move if done.

    • At a time when the economy is so bad and most families cannot afford vacations they can afford to camp and last year records were broken with camping families. Do Not take away the only form of vacation that so many families can only afford. We need our campgrounds and parks left open. If you do close them people will still use them and if someone gets hurt or killed they will probably sue the state for not maintaining and supplying safe areas.

    • I've been coming to Keewaydin State Park since I was a small girl. I can not believe that closing Keewaydin would be in the best interest of the State of New York or the local economy. This is a park that has an 8 page waitng list for dockage, the camp grounds are always full and the local children rely on the pool for their enjoyment. I believe closing this park would actually do more harm to the State and the economy than good. Wake up Governor Patterson. I don't think this is the legacy that you want to leave behind. You're not winning votes here!

    • As a person whom grew up in Keewaydin as a young boy,son & grandson, great nephew of long time state park employees,I have seen a lot of changes in that park. Closing it is just plain stupid. I was there when the park was just starting up. The park system razed one of the most beautiful houses along the river for the office building. Keep the parks open.

    • My husband and I enjoy this park and find it one of the most beautiful in the thousand islands. We need our recreation facililities in the North Country which generate much revenue for the region. We also use Picnic and Canoe point state parks in the summer. Closing these parks would drastically reduce available docking and use of facilities for the area.. Please reconsider closing these essential parks.
