Petition re intersection of Alcosta Boulevard and Broadmoor in City of San Ramon

To the City of San Ramon

This petition is respectfully submitted to the City of San Ramon by the businesses and residences in the area named below.

Whereas the intersection of Alcosta Boulevard and Broadmoor is deemed to be a substantial danger to the health and safety of pedestrians crossing Alcosta within the marked crosswalk (hereinafter вsubject crosswalkв) at the northern side of the intersection as set forth herein,

Whereas Alcosta Boulevard is one of seven arterial streets in the City of San Ramon,

Whereas arterial streets including Alcosta Boulevard are intended to carry larger volumes of vehicular traffic at relatively higher speeds with minimal delay,

Whereas the adjacent shopping center has been attracting greater vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and said pedestrian traffic is used to access said shopping center,

Whereby there was a major injury multiple pedestrian incident in the subject crosswalk at the intersection of Alcosta and Broadmoor on January 9, 2008;

Whereby there have been many near misses involving pedestrians in the subject crosswalk and motor vehicles at the intersection of Alcosta and Broadmoor,

Whereby it is well known that motor vehicles traveling on Alcosta Boulevard routinely approach the intersection Broadmoor at speeds in excess of the posted 35 mph speed limit,

Whereby the residences in the area want to ensure the maximum reasonable prevention of injury incidents in the subject pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection of Alcosta and Broadmoor,

Whereby the intersection of Alcosta and Braoadmoor, and specifically the subject pedestrian crosswalk therein, as presently constructed, configured and designed represents an unreasonable danger to the health and safety of pedestrians crossing in said crosswalk,

Therefore, the business owners and residences in the area do hereby respectfully request that the said intersection, and subject crosswalk, are modified as expeditiously as possible, so as to utilize all appropriate warnings, signals, devices, configurations and designs to protect the health and safely of pedestrians crossing therein.

Respectfully submitted
