RE: Logging in Algonquin Provincial Park

We, the undersigned, support CPAWS-Ottawa Valley's four objectives for Algonquin Park:

1. The securing of a comprehensive public review of all logging in Algonquin Park (as requested by the Environmental Commissioner);
2. The implementation of the Ontario Parks Board recommendations to reduce the area that is open to logging in Algonquin Park;
3. The establishment of a timeline for the elimination of all logging in Algonquin Park and the removal of associated infrastructure;
4. The designation of the Algonquin interior as a wilderness zone as logging is phased out.

In particular, with respect to the Ontario Parks Board recommendations, we fully endorse:

(a) Removing 708 sq. km from the "managed" forest, which is the forest open to exploitation by logging. This is a reduction of 17\% (p. 8);
(b) Reducing the number and impact of logging roads, and the activities associated with them;
(c) Improving the protection for riparian zones, old growth forest stands and Brook Trout habitat.

    • Our green spaces are not limitless, and a managed forest replanted with nursery-grown seedlings is but a pale imitation of a real forest. Stop logging, start conserving. Thank you.

    • I come from Britain where an area of land once designated as a park remains a park FOREVER. There is no logging, no mining, no hunting or fishing, and no development (built structures) allowed. Our parks are sacred. They are PRESERVES for nature and for the public to have quiet access to nature. There is no development allowed in the large town of Conwy that happens to be inside the boundaries of Snowdonia in North Wales. I know people who have gone to Algonquin Park for hiking, camping and canoeing, and who have been driven out by the constant sound of chain saws. I stay away because of this. Seeing as people have rolled over most of this province and destroyed a good percentage of it, why don't we let our parks be. Keep all mining, logging, hunting and development out of the park. This province is huge. Surely we can afford to leave some for nature. Surely we don't have to squeeze every bit of money we can out of everything? Leave Nature in peace in our parks!

    • Algonquin Park is a home for endangered species. Leave the park in its natural state for future generations instead of greedy developers now.
