Heroes or role models are selfless and peaceful people who courageously do something extraordinary and noble to make a point and help other human beings. It is no surprise that millions of people regard Jesus Nazareth, Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa, etc. as their heroes. Although none of those people might be flawless, the impact of their action to help others with peaceful means raised them to the status of a hero.

One of the flaws of Mr. Ahmed Turk might be his lack of courage to change his name so it reflects his own identity. Despite this simple flaw, the honorable parliamentarian Mr. Turk raised his status to hero on February 25th, 2008 when he spoke in his own language in the Turkish parliament to commemorate International Mother Tongue Day. Since TRT, an allegedly Kurdish TV station in Turkey, stopped broadcasting the speech, many missed the opportunity to hear Mr. Turks argument on TV.

If you consider Mr. Turks action heroic, please sign the following petition so it can be sent to a TV station that is willing to broadcast his speech in Kurdish.

    • I also wish he would change his name, maybe to Ahmed Kurd or anything else that reflects his ideas and what he really is. But on the other hand, he lives in Turkey, where democracy and respect for human being does not make sense, so understand Mr. Ahmed has limitations.

    • Turkey is working against its own interest; linguistic human rights PREVENT ("ethnic") conflict whereas violating these rights breed conflic!

    • It is our most basic human right to express ourselves in our mother tongue. It is one of the fundamental right. With their action, Turkish state, with their action not allowing Ahmet Turk express himself in his own language proves that they are not geniunly interested in finding a solution to Kurdish question.
