We, the undersigned urge you to please recondiser the changes you are making to Yahoo! concerning the Message Archive.
This is part of the letter sent by Yahoo! Groups Team
"- Message Attachments: Yahoo! Groups will continue to deliver all
attachments sent via email, however, the attachments will no longer be
archived within the Messages area. You may continue to upload files
and images to the Files and Photos areas of your groups. Please
re-upload any attachments you would like to preserve to the Photos or
Files areas of your group. On Aug. 7, all attachments in the Messages
area will be removed, and Yahoo! will be unable to retrieve such data.
- Add Members: The "Add Members" feature will now allow you to add 10
new members per day (e.g., the ability to directly add your friends
and family to your group). You may still use the "Invite Members"
feature to invite others to join your group.
- Files and Photos: Groups web membership will be required to access a
group's Files and Photos areas."
Have you taken into consideration what this will do to the Graphics/PSP and related groups?? Yahoo promises "to continue offering a compelling, high quality, free service." Yet you are taking away a main and very important feature to graphic related groups.
A very simple solution instead of taking the feature away from us completley would be to allow us to have the messages archived for at least two days max, then have them deleted,Graphics groups depend HIGHLY on mail attachments. Taking this feature away is taking a group away. Graphics groups receive hundreds of attachments each day. For members to have to upload to the files area is nothing but a hassle for everyone concerned.
many members also read from the web as they belong to several groups, this feature will not work at all for those users.
We would have to come up with better solutions such as creating web pages to share images or other sources that I feel is unnecessary, Or simply move our groups to a community that allows file sharing. I feel Yahoo! will, in turn lose MANY groups.
Why?? members do not want to have to go into files we want to be able to share via e mail.
Your new change will make things very complicated and I do STRESS, it is a unwanted change within Yahoo! groups
Once again, the undersigned urge you to please recondiser the changes you are making to Yahoo! concerning the Message Archive.
Thank you,
Yahoo Moderators and Members

- I don't like the changes, Yahoo promised members the archives in the first place why back out now? They should have prepared for the usage disk space before offering something that they obviously can't follow through on :(

- These whole new *big changes* introduced by Yahoo sucks BIG TIME. Not only are we going to LOSE a TON of members over this, because of the fact that alot of members DO NOT want all of that email coming into their "limited space" email boxes also, ALOT of members do not want the virus risk that is attached to that amount of email coming in to their own mailbox a regular basis. They depend on the archive option, like I do!!!

- I understand you guys wanting to do this, but like everyone else, I agree, you WILL lose ALOT of traffic. But that's ok, there are other places for us on the net. It is unfortunate though, that you would consider this after all of this time! Maybe that is why you are doing this, because YAHOO doesn't want members at it's site.

- Archive attachments are important to those on dial-up. I'm on DSL, but I know how hard it is to download all the attachments in your mail when you're on dialup. It will also be difficult for those who need to go on daily digest because of emergencies, health conditions, and vacations.

- I usually am very supportive of decisions you all make, but I think you are going to be 'shooting yourselves in the foot' with the decision to make so many changes all at once. I know there are 'more than a few' people who link their newsletters and archives that lead a lot of 'web-surfers' to Yahoogroups with 'Open Archives' and storing past issues with attachments in the message archives. I also must say, that I have noticed that when I am in Yahoogroups, my spyware blocker has started blocking installs of 'Spyware' to my computer. Is that you, or has someone 'cracked a code' somewhere?

- The archives are very important for users with dial up accounts that cannot choose INDIVIDUAL EMAILS for fear of bouncing, these folks use the NO MAIL option and are able to browse the archives at their leisure to get the things they might have missed, such as graphics, fonts or other items that are free to be shared. This change will hurt these people a great deal.
